Utilities

Some reminders and tips on utilities.

  • Before moving in make sure that you have contacted the utility companies
  • Tap water in Japan is safe for drinking.
  • Voltage throughout Japan is 100Volts - not 110 nor 220 Volts, which is the case in most countries - so make sure you use an adapter for non-Japanese electronic equipment
  • There are different types of gas used in Japan depending on the region you're in the supplier you are using. Make sure that all gas appliances you buy are compatible with the gas supply in your apartment.
  • Gas is used for stoves, heaters and boilers.
  • Utility bills can be paid through the utility company offices, convenience stores, banks, postal offices and ATMs.
